When your one way commute to work is over 40 miles, you need reliable directions that get you to/from with as little hassle as possible. That’s why I often go crawling back to Google Maps, even after I’ve put it to the test against Wave — or exploring what advantages Apple Maps might offer over it.I do a lot of driving every week testing many of the best electric cars around, frequently relying on Google Maps for all driving navigation. But I also remember how it’s evolved since the early days when it upended the industry in 2009 by offering free turn-by-turn driving directions. However, Google is constantly coming out with new features, which is tough for the average driver to remember. That’s why I want to share my favorite Google Maps features that make my driving experience better. Not only is my commute to work easier, but these five features inadvertently make me a better driver.

You may like

Report an incident on the road

(Image credit: Future)Out of all the Google Maps features I use, reporting incidents on the road has become one thing I constantly do while I’m driving. It’s a relatively new feature that lets you report incidents on your route, like accidents, inclement weather conditions, lane closures, and much more. And yes, there’s also the option to report police or speed traps — so you know exactly where they’re at.While this might be intended to give speeders the upper hand in avoiding potential moving violations, it’s actually more helpful in giving other drivers the heads up on why there’s a slow down caused by some other activity. In order to report an incident while you’re using driving directions with Google Maps, tap on the triangular shaped icon in the app, then select what report you’d like to make.Find your next turn without adjusting the map view(Image credit: Tom’s Guide / John Velasco)Whenever I start driving directions with Google Maps, I like to know what I should anticipate with upcoming turns. In the past, I would reorient the map to see what’s coming ahead, or tap the route preview icon in the app to see the entire route’s view in the app — but doing either of these is annoying and a big distraction. That’s why I’ve come to use this hidden Google Maps feature that makes it simpler and more intuitive.Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.At the top of the interface you’ll find the set of directions you’re supposed to follow, but if you perform a swipe gesture on it, you’ll see the next set of driving instructions. Check out the animation above to see this feature in action. When you do this, it’ll also jump to the section of the map that corresponds to those directions. This makes it way more convenient for me to see what I need to do with upcoming turns, so that way, I can know whether to turn left or right.Planning a route by setting an arrival or destination time

(Image credit: Future)This one has saved me so much time because traffic conditions constantly change. One mistake many people make whenever they use Google Maps is that they don’t plan ahead and simply punch in their destination the moment they leave. As a result, they might find themselves having to drive for much longer due to traffic and other factors.

You may like

That’s why I suggest planning ahead by setting a departure or arrival time in Google Maps. For example, if I need to be at work for a meeting by 10:00 a.m., I like setting up an arrival time for Google Maps to tell me when’s the best time for me to leave. I frequently do this because Google Maps does an excellent job of taking into consideration common traffic conditions during the specified time, so I’m not wasting more time than needed. You can set an arrival or departure time by tapping the pull down menu under the driving directions tab of the app. Afterwards, you can get a sense of what actions you need to take to get there.Enable show traffic on Map

(Image credit: Future)One of the best Google Maps features to ever come out is being able to see traffic conditions on your route, with green showing free-flowing roads and red indicating congested conditions. While these color-coded traffic conditions show up on your route, there’s actually another setting that makes it better. When you’re actively using Google Maps with driving directions, you can perform a scroll up gesture from the bottom to expand additional settings with the map. There’s one in particular for “show traffic in map” that actually displays the conditions of nearby roads, not just the one you’re on.I find this setting useful because it can help me determine if I should stay clear from some roads, or take a gamble on taking a turn in the hopes of shaving off more time from my trip.Manually save your parking spot

(Image credit: Future)The last tip I want to share is manually saving your parking spot. Google Maps can actually do this automatically on its own, but it’s not perfect. Usually Google Maps will do this if you give the app access to your location all the time. But if you’re like me, and only give it permission while using the app, then you’ll want to manually save your parking spot. When you’ve reached your destination, just tap the blue dot that indicates your location, perform a swipe-up gesture to show more details about your location, and then scroll over through the tabs until you see the one for “save parking.” For any new place I visit, I always use this feature so that I don’t waste time later on having to remember where I parked.Follow Tom’s Guide on Google News and add us as a preferred source to get our up-to-date news, analysis, and reviews in your feeds.
We all know that creative work today comes with tighter deadlines and a faster pace. Getting everyone on the same page before jumping into production can be tough. Now a part of the Firefly web application, Boards is a multi-player canvas with a generative-first approach to concept development and exploration.
With Boards (beta), you can quickly bring your ideas to life, confidently shape your creative vision, and refine everything in one place before seamlessly moving to production.
Here are three great ways you can use Boards:

Mood Boarding: Create mood boards and concept presentations in the same space, exploring different creative directions with ease.
Storyboarding: The infinite canvas gives you as much or as little structure as you need, making it perfect for all kinds of visual storytelling.
Creative Brainstorming: Arrange your content on artboards for easy sharing and collaboration with your team, clients, and stakeholders. Visually explore a variety of ideas and refine them together.

This dynamic, multi-player environment is designed to keep the collaboration flowing and ensure that inspiration never stops.
Diversify your creative options with non-Adobe AI Models
In response to community feedback, we’re excited to integrate non-Adobe AI models directly into our Creative Cloud ecosystem.
Now, alongside our own Firefly models, which are commercially safe and IP-friendly for production use, you can choose from a diverse range of specialized, non-Adobe models — starting with Google Imagen3 and Veo2, OpenAI GPT image generation, and Black Forest Labs Flux 1.1 Pro. We are also working with a number of other models that you will see in products in the coming months like fal.ai, Runway, Pika, Luma, and Ideogram.
Every generative AI model has a distinct aesthetic and we want to give users more choice and flexibility, especially during the concept phase, to use the right model for their project needs. Whether you need the impeccable quality and commercial safety of Adobe’s models or the unique capabilities and aesthetic styles of the non-Adobe models, you can effortlessly compare outputs to find the ideal style for your creative needs.
We’re making these models directly available in our creative apps, starting with Firefly. If you decide to use a non-Adobe model, switching will be seamless and we’ll always be transparent about which model you’re using. Content Credentials will be attached to all AI-generated content, ensuring transparency and trust. No matter which model you choose, you can always see whether it was created with Firefly or a non-Adobe model with Content Credentials.

Adobe has announced a major generative AI expansion across its Firefly and Express platforms, introducing new models, applications, and features aimed at simplifying content creation for professionals and casual creators alike.

At its Adobe Max 2025 conference, the company launched two new text-to-image models, Image Model 4 and Image Model 4 Ultra, promising sharper visuals, better prompt accuracy, and increased realism. While Image Model 4 focuses on faster generation for basic illustrations and objects, Image Model 4 Ultra is designed for producing photorealistic portraits and complex scenes.

“These models bring higher fidelity and creative flexibility to our Firefly users,” Adobe said in a blog post.

The new models are now live for subscribers through the Firefly app, alongside powerful filters, style matching, and composition tools.

Firefly Goes Mobile and Welcomes Third-Party AI

The launch also included the first-ever Firefly mobile app, giving users on-the-go access to Adobe’s creative AI suite. Adobe is further opening Firefly to third-party models, with integrations for OpenAI, Google’s Veo 2, and Flux 1.1 Pro now live, and future partnerships in the works with fal.ai, Ideogram, Luma, Pika, and Runway.

A new Vector Model was also unveiled, allowing designers to generate editable vector artwork, such as logos, packaging, and scenes, using natural language prompts.

Another notable debut is Firefly Boards—a public beta tool for storyboard and concept creation. Previously codenamed Project Concept, it enables users to explore visual ideas with text-to-image generation, AI-powered refinements, and mood board editing, all within one interface.

Firefly Video Model Goes Public

After being previewed last year, the Firefly Video model is now generally available. It supports text and image-based video generation, useful for creating custom b-roll, background visuals, and stylised edits—all driven by AI.

Adobe Express is also seeing a wave of AI-powered upgrades for video editors. A new Clip Maker tool transforms long videos into shareable clips, using AI to detect key moments and add captions or reframing.

Other additions include:

    • Enhance Speech: Removes background noise for better audio clarity • Video Self-Record: Enables self-filming inside Adobe Express • Drop Zone and Scene View: For batch clip editing and timeline rearrangement • Dynamic Animation: Turns still images into motion-rich content

Users can now export directly to Vimeo, and enterprise customers benefit from a Generate Similar feature that builds on-brand variations from a reference image. Over 30 new visual filters are also rolling out across the platform.

Firefly’s entry-level subscription starts at $9.99/month (approx. ₹852), with plans tailored for individuals, teams, and students.

As Adobe steps deeper into the AI-driven creative ecosystem, the suite of updates across Firefly and Express marks a significant push to make generative tools more accessible, intuitive, and professional-grade, whether on desktop or mobile.

Adobe adds new AI tools to ExpressThe push towards video continuesClip Maker is going to save creators so much timeAdobe has unveiled a stream of new additions for Adobe Express that, to my mind, are making it a clear go-to app in the marketer’s and creator’s arsenal. There have been plenty of updates to Adobe stalwarts Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator, infused with more Firefly AI than you’ll know what to do with (check out our round-up of the 5 biggest new Photoshop, Firefly and Premiere Pro tools that were announced at Adobe Max London 2025)But Adobe Express has also received some extra love this year – and a host of new AI tools. At this year’s Adobe Max London, I had the opportunity to check out a demo for some of these – and I’m starting to really see the growth here from its original role as a simple online designer, not a million miles away from Canva, to a new focus on both design and motion. It looks like we’re going to have to update our Adobe Express review after all this.

What’s new in Adobe Express? On the new tools, Govind Balakrishnan, SVP and General Manager, Adobe Express, said: “We’re excited to introduce new AI-powered video and animation capabilities to make it even easier for people to stand out and break through with their brands.”Here are the stand-out additions coming to Express.1. Turn long-form videos into short-form contentThis is my favorite new addition in Express. You can now cut down long videos at pretty much the click of a button with Clip Maker. This update is going to be a serious time-saver if you create long-form content for platforms like YouTube or you’re running webinars and presentations, and want to splice it up for the likes of Reels, TikTok, or Shorts. During my demo, I sawn an hour-long video cut into approximately ten-minute chunks that can be further edited.2. Create new AI images based on existing onesGenerate Similar lets you select existing images and, with a little prompting, create new images that maintain the same look and feel. It worked very well during my demo, where a heavily stylised image of a rose was used as a starting point, and using Firefly, a similar image of a tulip was generated. Color, style, and framing carried through, as if the work was by a single ‘artist’. Not a game-changer by any means, but it’ll help users stay on-brand and quickly create a library of images that sit well together.Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed!3. Turn still images into eye-catching animationsAdobe Express’s bread and butter is simple graphic design, but this is a really nice addition. You can now animate sections of a static image – for example, adding glittering stars, having your text pop in, or letting objects jiggle on-screen. I didn’t find it as high-powered as you’ll see in more advanced Adobe apps, but if you’re looking for more engaging content for your social platforms, this is a nice touch. For more image tools – although I didn’t get a chance to see them in action – you now have access to more than 30 new filters powered by Photoshop right inside Express.4. More AI video generationYou can’t go ten seconds without AI inserting itself into the workflow, but I think these are going to be welcomed by most users. You can now generate commercially safe videos in Express. I was told all the backgrounds and b-roll seen in the demo were created this way – and they looked pretty good to me.5. Improve audio with Enhance SpeechIf you use other Creative Cloud apps, you may be familiar with Enhance Speech – it’s already a part of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Podcast. Effectively, this tool uses AI (of course) to clean-up sounds. So, if you record in an echo-y room or there’s a little too much background chatter in the office, this tool will strip out unwanted audio and standardize noise levels.6. Better, faster captioningAnother new tool is automatic captioning. Now, there’s nothing especially new about this tool – but it’s new to Express, and I found this one was pretty quick. On top of this, users now have more control over how those captions appear. Useful if you have brand colors and styles you want to apply.7. Record yourself and add it to the canvasI wasn’t expecting this, but you can now self-record videos and add them into Express. According to Adobe, this is built for “tutorials, video podcasts, reels and more.” In the demo, I liked how you can position the video anywhere on the canvas and resize it to suit your needs. You’ll find these types of webcam capture tools in the best screen recording software, but this seems like a seamless way to blend self-recorded videos to existing designs. You might also like

     Summary

At Adobe Max London 2025, Adobe announced that its adding a bunch of new AI-powered features to its content-creation app, Adobe Express.

Adobe Express now includes powerful AI-driven tools like Generate Video, Clip Maker, Dynamic Animation, and Generate Similar.

You can start projects in Express and seamlessly continue editing in other Adobe apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Lightroom.

The biggest issue with most Adobe tools isn’t the price. Instead, it’s the steep learning curve you need to overcome before you can actually use the tools without getting lost in menus. For instance, Adobe Photoshop is undoubtedly one of the best image-editing applications out there, but it’s primarily aimed at professional photographers and editors rather than novice users.
Adobe solved this in 2021 by launching Adobe Express, an all-in-one cloud-based content creation tool. From creators pumping out Instagram Reels and TikToks to students building yet another presentation for their economics class, Express caters to anyone who needs powerful creative tools without wanting to spend hours learning their way around an app’s complicated interface.

Since its debut, Adobe has constantly added new features to Express to make content creation even faster for the average user, unsurprisingly, including a slew of AI-powered tools. Today, at its annual creativity conference, Adobe Max London 2025, the company announced a host of new AI-driven image and video editing features for Express. While there are plenty of exciting additions, the Generate Video feature is the one we’re most looking forward to.

         Source: Adobe

Editing just got a whole lot easier with Adobe Express’s latest features

Adobe isn’t new to the AI video generation world. The company first showcased its AI Video Generator, powered by the Firefly Video model, at Adobe Max 2025, and released it to the public in February 2025. Similar to OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo 2 in Gemini Advanced, the Generate Video feature lets users create unique and commercially safe video content using descriptive text prompts.
While you could previously access the Generate Video tool through the Firefly web app or Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe is now adding it to Express as well. So, if you’re ever running low on inspiration or simply blanking on where to start, the Video Generator tool is a great way to hit the ground running.

AI video generation isn’t the only feature coming to Express, though. If you frequently post videos on social media apps, one of the best ways to increase engagement and build anticipation before uploading a full video is to post short snippets in the days leading up to your final post.
Traditionally, you’ve always needed to go through the hassle of manually splitting longer videos into shorter, snappier clips that build curiosity and hype. Adobe Express’s Clip Maker can help save you all this manual work and automate the entire process. The feature uses AI to turn long-form video footage, like podcasts, interviews, and demos, into social-length, shareable clips optimized for different platforms. If you’d like to breathe some life into a static image, Adobe Express’s new Dynamic Animation feature lets you add “playful, natural motion” to it with just a single click.
I’ve always been a huge fan of following a consistent theme for my Instagram feed. If you’re anything like me, you probably know how much of a struggle it can be to maintain a cohesive aesthetic and actually come up with images that’ll match it. Express’s Generate Similar feature aims to solve that, giving you the ability to create an entire cohesive collection based on a single image that follows your chosen theme, all within seconds.

All of these AI-powered features use Adobe Firefly, which is commercially safe and trained exclusively on Adobe Stock, licensed, and public domain content. This ensures you can use any content generated with it without worrying about receiving a terrifying legal notice!
Since Adobe Express is a companion app to Creative Cloud, it integrates seamlessly with other Adobe apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom. This means you can start editing in Express and easily continue your work in another Adobe app. All of these features are available starting today in Adobe Express.

While the generative artificial intelligence (AI) battles continue in earnest, headlined by the likes of OpenAI, Google and others with the definitive leaps they make with new models, there is one focused AI product that continues to deliver within a focused set of apps. Adobe’s Firefly models, which can be further segregated depending on images, vectors or videos, have clocked more than 22 billion asset generations. The new Image Model 4 and Image Model 4 Ultra will underline Adobe’s AI efforts across apps including Express and Photoshop. At this year’s Adobe Max London conference, the company has detailed plans for general availability of Firefly Video models addition of non-Adobe models (GPT image generation, Google Imagen 3 and Veo 2, Flux) as choice for creators, an upcoming Firefly app for smartphones, and significant upgrades across Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro and InDesign. PREMIUM The versatile Adobe Express platform is adding significant new functionality too. (Official photo) The versatile Adobe Express platform is adding significant new functionality too, as it competes with the likes of Canva as well as a number of AI-based tools that have become proficient at replicating some of Express’ functionality. The new additions add video generation, enhancing speech to remove background noise, animation for objects in static designs and an AI clip maker that creates shorter duration clips from a larger video, optimised for social media sharing. Adobe is taking forward steps with AI Agents, across Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Also Read:Agentic AI: Next big leap in workplace automation On the sidelines, Govind Balakrishnan, senior vice president for Express Product Group & Digital Media Services at Adobe, spoke with HT from London, and detailed India’s importance as a market for Adobe Express, how important it is to leverage Firefly amidst stiffer competition, if Adobe Express’ perceived value proposition has changed with time and the excitement around AI Agents (Adobe has detailed plans to bring agentic AI to Express). Edited excerpts. Adobe Express has come a long way since the big revamp in 2021. Did Adobe, at that time, envision such a thick AI layer to envelope Express over time, and is Adobe Express today exactly as you’d thought of it then? The benefit of starting with a complete free platform is that we have an ability to think holistically about where we think the product should go, and we obviously have the advantage that we were beginning to see what was happening in the industry around us, including advancements that were happening in AI and more. Importantly, even the advancements happening in generative AI. One of the key tenets that we wanted to hold true to was that we would provide recommendations, that is we would not put the burden entirely on users to figure out what to do and when to do it. From the beginning, we architected the product in a way that we could provide font recommendations. We give our users access to more than 30, 000 fonts now, but that doesn’t help if you can’t figure out how to pick the right one. Look at the content, context, and we make some recommendations. Similarly, we are also making colour, stock assets and other recommendations. Users don’t have to go searching for these pieces of content. Then along came generative AI. We were still in the middle of building the product when generative AI started taking off as much as it did. Adobe has deep experience in generative AI base, and how we got Firefly to where it is today. But since we were building the product, we didn’t have to bolt it all as an afterthought. We have actually seamlessly and contextually integrated it with the workflows in the journey. While you’re creating, just add something as simple as video generation, that we just did. Now, it’s not something you start with. You actually start with your intent. You can start with video generation if you choose to, but the more natural way is, you’re now creating a Instagram reel for instance and as part of that, you’re putting some clips together. Now, you need a five second clip that is a filler potentially? So, in that workflow, in that context, we give you the ability to generate video. It’s that integration seamless integration as part of your workplace that has been a big advantage for us. Also Read: Video Gen AI battles begin, as Adobe releases Firefly Video model into the world Did we expect the product to be what it is today? I would say, not necessarily. I take pride in is the fact that the product has evolved based on what we are seeing and how we’re seeing our customers use the product. So, rather than us sort of saying, you know, this is exactly what the product should be, and this is how all the workflows and experiences should be, we have chosen to morph, adjust and build the product based on what we hear from our community and our users How pivotal has Firefly been to Express, as it has been to the likes of Photoshop and Premiere Pro for instance, and does that need to be Adobe’s AI trump card considering the AI ecosystem is creating focused alternative after alternative at a rapid pace? I would say yes, and for a few reasons. We have essentially created the creative category, and we have more experience and expertise in the creative space than any other company in the world. Our researchers have been hard at work for many years, making sure they build the models that are best in class. There will be pointed solutions that will come and obviously challenge us, which is great. But if you look at it holistically, I would say that our ability to deliver the best results is real and is something that we are investing in and stay ahead of everyone else. What then differentiates our Firefly models is that what we have built is safe for commercial use. We have trained these models with data that we have access to and essentially what we have done is, regardless of whether you’re a student, a solo planner or someone in a business, we have given you the ability to leverage generative AI capabilities and use it for your creative work without being concerned about your IP infringement of any kind. That’s the other one that we have held through to. Also Read: We aren’t building AI models for the sake of it: Adobe’s Deepa Subramaniam The third piece to this is that because we have built the tools that work on content. We have been able to bridge those solutions together and make those available through these seamless, contextually relevant touch points. The integration works better unlike a point solution that can be used to generate a stunning image. The questions, what do you do with that image? The image is not an end to itself, and you generally have to do something with the image. Perhaps put it into a poster, into a birthday card, or a social media campaign. We can now make all of that available to one single tool that gets you to start from an intent, use generative AI wherever your design, and then take it out with the flexibility across social media to banners to flyers. Users now have an end-to-end solution that only Adobe can provide right now. It’s a matter of plugging these pieces together and obviously continuing to make sure we deliver the highest quality delivered safely. Do the contours of perceived value proposition for Adobe Express change with time, and surely that ties in with what the consumer and business audiences are looking for? For consumers, in general, their primary goal is to get started with an intent as soon as possible. We give them the ability to either start with a template, their own content, or generate their own images or videos. You can essentially enter a prompt to generate a design, modify it and get to desired outcomes. As part of that journey, users are able to use our generative AI in a meaningful way. When I say generated, it relates to image generation, video generation, text effects and an ability to create captions for social content. With Enterprises, we are seeing a significant traction, and adoption, for generative AI in particular. That is given the quality of what’s created or generated, but more interestingly, also because whatever we generate for commercial use is proving to be something that a large number of enterprises care about and value. The fact that it’s safe for commercial use, and it’s the confidence that there is no IP infringement. Those are the two things that go hand in hand as it plays to the value proposition that we are offering with generative AI to enterprise customers. Also Read: Our AI innovation undergoes careful evaluation and diligence: Adobe’s Grace Yee AI agents are now very much part of the conversation for businesses, and perhaps in due course, for consumers too. What is Adobe’s vision for agentic AI in Adobe Express and what shall form the core of this evolution? This is an area once again that I get very excited about and often tell my team in the context of the advancements that we are seeing, and the tools that we have in our toolbox, are AI agents, now really a path to, or a way to interact with these applications. The opportunity that we have is to essentially reimagine and rethink creativity. This next wave, with the capabilities that are available and with the direction that we are headed in, we’re seeing just the tip of where we want to go. As we deliver on that vision, we think a user will now have the ability to essentially interact with the application, purely using prompt based interaction models. It can be conversational or input text based and a user will no longer have to take the time and energy to essentially learn a tool like Adobe Express to get work done. Think of it as the ability to bring what’s in your mind’s eye, to a digital service. No need to learn a tool to do that. What makes us even more magical though is that even as a user goes through that process, is the granular control to get to your desired outcome. The tools that we have in a product like Adobe Express are still available and a user can very seamlessly go from interacting using prompts to actually going into the tool and making the tweaks and adjustments manually. Users are not giving up on control by adopting, but enhancing an ability to start using these interfaces and capabilities to then get to the desired outcome as well as possible. Also Read: Video Gen AI battles begin, as Adobe releases Firefly Video model into the world Please tell us about India as a market for Adobe Express. What are users here demanding, and does that feedback and research help build for the rest of the world? India is one of the most unique markets in the world, through diversity and its dynamic nature. I strongly believe that it is one of our biggest growth areas as we look ahead, not just for Adobe Express, but more holistically for Adobe. Given how creative the Indian population is, India presents a huge opportunity. One of our biggest challenges previously was that we did not have the tools and applications that could lower the barrier to entry. To address the broad base of users in India, Adobe Express is bringing all these capabilities together and we believe we have lowered the barrier to entry sufficiently enough for us to have lots of viable and exciting offerings for India. We are going to invest heavily, and even based on investments and the advancements we have made, we are seeing a 3x increase in the number of Adobe Express users in India over the past 12 months. We expect that number to continue to grow. Our focus is on investing in making sure that we have the right content for the Indian market, be it templates, stock images, or forms. We are doing everything we can to increase the breadth of content that we have available for users in India. In parallel, we are also trying to build solutions such as an AI assistant and agent solutions that don’t necessarily rely on templates and content — a user simply explains what they want to do, and generate the right content. We will also add support for additional languages. We recently added a few additional languages in terms of localisation of the UI itself, but beyond that, we are making it so that users can translate content into as many as 15 Indian languages. Adobe is also partnering with educational institutions and the education industry at large, the Ministry of Education and we have a number of compelling partnerships in the works. There is a big opportunity in education for kids and students in schools and educational institutions to use Express for their learning and creative work. If we put it all together, it is a big opportunity for us in India. It is a priority and we intend to stay focused.
