Google is rolling out a series of changes to its Search and Discover pages, the company shared across multiple announcements. The updates will bring new AI-powered features to these key destinations, while also improving navigation and allowing users to collapse ads on Google Search.

Given that ads are Google’s primary cash cow, the latter initially seems like a more surprising change. The feature will now allow users browsing Google’s Search results to tap a new button, “Hide sponsored results,” to collapse the ads at the top of the search results page.

However, while this action will remove the ads from displaying on the screen, sponsored results are not going away entirely. Instead, Google notes that the “Sponsored Results” label will remain at the top of the screen as you scroll down. In a way, this makes the ads more prominent as they can follow you down the page, even though they’re collapsed.

Plus, Google says that the “Sponsored results” header can appear both above and below AI Overviews — the short AI-written summaries that appear at the top of search results to provide quick answers. The “Sponsored results” header for text ads will also appear at the bottom of the page, with all text ads grouped under the label. These can be collapsed with the same “Hide sponsored results” button if you want to focus on organic content.

Google says the new design makes it easier for people to navigate to the top of the page, and it keeps the size of ads the same, with users never seeing more than four text ads in a group.

The new “Sponsored” label will show up in other places across Google, too, including Shopping ads, where it will be branded as “Sponsored Products.”

The updates will roll out across desktop and mobile.

The company is also making other changes across Search and Discover. When searching for sports information, like looking up players or teams, you’ll now see a new “What’s New” button that displays a feed of trending updates and news articles that could help you catch up with the latest. This will roll out to Google Search in the U.S. in the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, the Google app’s Discover feed on mobile will introduce an AI-powered feature that also helps you keep up with trending topics you’re interested in. Here, the app will display short previews that you can expand to see more information, plus other links to explore. The company says this feature is designed to help users stay up to date on stories from a variety of publishers, but it also comes at a time when publishers are seeing their search traffic decline due to the shift to AI-provided answers and consumers’ changing media habits.

This latter feature is rolling out now to the U.S., South Korea, and India.

Image Credits:Jagmeet Singh / TechCrunch Google is making a $15 billion investment to set up a 1-gigawatt data center and AI hub in India, even as the Indian government pushes for reduced reliance on U.S. tech giants. On Tuesday, Google said it would build the data center in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, in the port city of Visakhapatnam. The investment will take place over the next five years through 2030, the company added. Notably, this marks Google’s largest investment in India and comes five years after it first announced a $10 billion commitment to the South Asian nation in 2020. Weeks after President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports in August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began urging the use of “swadeshi” (Hindi for “made in India”) products. In response, Indian lawmakers and ministries started promoting local alternatives to Google — including those from Chennai-based enterprise tech firm Zoho Corporation, which offers competitors to Google Cloud and Gmail, and most recently, WhatsApp-rival Arattai, as well as MapMyIndia, a Google Maps-rival. While the initial impact has been limited, these moves could pose a real political threat to the future of companies Google and Microsoft in India. Google has 14,000 employees in India, and has operated in the country for 21 years. The company also counts Delhi and Mumbai as official cloud regions. The new Google AI hub will be the company’s largest investment outside of the U.S., said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, adding that it would be scaled to “multiple gigawatts” over time. “It is part of a global network of AI centers in 12 different countries,” Kurian said at the launch of the AI hub in New Delhi. “In addition to that, we’re also pleased to announce that we will be making Vishakhapatnam a global connectivity hub.” Google also announced plans to bring its subsea cable infrastructure to Visakhapatnam. The U.S. tech giant has partnered with Indian telecom provider Bharti Airtel to build both the data center and the cable landing station in the city. Further, Google has teamed up with Adani Group-backed AdaniConneX to set up the infrastructure for the data center. Google’s AI hub launch in India with Indian lawmakersImage Credits:Jagmeet Singh / TechCrunch “We see it not just becoming a landing station for a large number of cables, but also providing a digital backbone connecting different parts of India together,” Kurian said. Google said the AI hub will offer a “full stack of solutions,” including its custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to enable local AI processing. The Mountain View–based company will also provide access to its AI models — including Gemini — and its platform for building agents and applications. The hub will additionally support consumer services such as Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, and Google Ads. “We see this hub not just serving India but from India serving Asia and other parts of the world,” Kurian said. Google’s choice of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is not surprising. The southern state, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has previously attracted global tech firms like Oracle and Microsoft to set up hubs in Hyderabad, which was Andhra Pradesh’s capital before the creation of Telangana. Naidu, a key political ally who supported Prime Minister Modi’s return to power in the last general election, has since played a prominent role in shaping national policy discussions. “This AI hub will be a very important contribution to the [India] AI mission goals in different ways,” said Indian IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The minister urged Google to consider India’s Andaman Islands as the next major hub for global internet data transfer, noting that Singapore “is all choked,” and assured the company of full government support. He also proposed linking Visakhapatnam with Sittwe, a city in Myanmar, to improve connectivity in India’s northeastern states.

New features coming to Adobe ExpressAdobe has been re-positioning Express, its all-in-one creative platform, as a single solution for individuals and businesses alike. It got a new identity with the arrival of generative AI and, now the integration of AI agents opens more possibilities for the platform. Adobe is integrating these AI agents to assist with content creation, offering features like image generation, template suggestions, and design customisation. These agents are ushering in an era where creativity is not just augmented by technology but radically reimagined through it.“We now have the ability to reimagine creativity itself,” he said. “You are no longer constrained by templates, your own assets, or even tool proficiency. You’re only limited by your imagination,” Govind Balakrishnan, Senior Vice President of the Express Product Group & Digital Media Services at Adobe told Times Now Tech, in an interview.Govind BalakrishnanWith Adobe’s AI agents embedded deeply within Express, users can now simply describe what they want to create in natural language. The agent understands the intent, builds out design elements, generates motion or video, and presents a finished piece that users can further refine, if they choose to.“The magic lies in the fact that you don’t have to tweak anything, but you can,” Balakrishnan emphasised. “The tools are still there for those who want to go deeper.”Lowering Creativity BarrierOne of the fundamental shifts driven by AI agents is how they lower the barrier to entry. Previously, design was limited to those with time, tools, or technical know-how. Now, with prompt-based creation and natural language interfaces, Express lets anyone translate their imagination onto a digital canvas.“You don’t have to know how to manipulate pixels anymore to be creative,” Balakrishnan explained. “You just need to be able to express your idea.”When asked about the fine line between machine-generated output and human creativity, Balakrishnan is clear: it’s not about replacement but augmentation.“AI agents give users a head start. But at the end of the day, the power still lies with the creator,” he said. “You can start with a prompt and take the machine’s help, or you can dive in and tweak every detail. It’s all about your own appetite and intent.”This flexibility ensures that while the process becomes easier, it doesn’t become creatively hollow. Users retain authorship and control. The Ecosystem AdvantageWhen asked about competing platforms like Canva, Balakrishnan said that one of the strongest differentiators for Express, is its integration with Adobe’s larger ecosystem: Creative Cloud, Acrobat, and others. This ecosystem approach means workflows are not siloed. A video edited in Premiere Pro can be quickly transformed into a social-ready clip in Express.Similarly, a brand team can stylise a legal document in Acrobat with just one click, sending it to Express for a creative overhaul.Even more significant is how generative AI has been built into the platform from the ground up. “It’s embedded contextually within the workflow, making it feel like a natural part of the creation process,” he said. Another advantage for users is Adobe’s firm stance on copyright, Balakrishnan added. “Everything created through Express’s generative AI tools is safe for commercial use. Whether you’re a solo creator or a large enterprise, you don’t need to worry about rights issues,” he said.India Remains Core For InnovationAdobe’s AI ambitions aren’t confined to Silicon Valley. In fact, India is emerging as a strategic focus market for the Express platform. Over the past year, Adobe Express has seen a staggering 3x growth in adoption in India. According to Balakrishnan, this momentum is being driven by three main factors: mobile-first access, support for local languages, and culturally relevant templates.India’s multilingual landscape presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Adobe has responded by localising the Express UI in 8 languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali. This makes it easier than ever for creators to produce content in their native language, reaching diverse audiences with minimal effort. If the current wave of AI-powered design feels revolutionary, Balakrishnan believes it’s just the beginning. Over the next five years, he predicts a redefinition of what it even means to be a “creative.”“We will need to change our benchmarks,” he said. “Creativity won’t just be about your ability to draw or edit, if you can visualise an idea and articulate it, you’re already creating.”This shift has profound implications not just for creators, but for education, marketing, and even how we understand innovation. With AI agents at the center, Express could well be the engine powering this new era of accessible, inclusive, and intelligent creativity.

Amid a tug of war on artificial intelligence (AI) supremacy between the US and China, union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that India will develop its own generative AI model. The initiative was announced by the minister at the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave. He said that the model will be powered by the India AI Compute Facility, which has secured 19,000 GPUs to develop a large language model (LLM) designed specifically for the country. Out of these, 15,000 are high-end. With this, the government has overreached its target of 10,000 GPUs.At least six developers have been identified who can roll this out in 8-10 months. Foundation models are AI models trained on vast repositories of data, which can be used as the base for other applications.”Cost of compute — GPU access per hour — after the 40% govt incentive will be less than a dollar in India, the lowest in the world,” the minister said in a press conference regarding the India AI Mission.Artificial Intelligence(AI)Java Programming with ChatGPT: Learn using Generative AIBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)Basics of Generative AI: Unveiling Tomorrows InnovationsBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)Generative AI for Dynamic Java Web Applications with ChatGPTBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)Mastering C++ Fundamentals with Generative AI: A Hands-OnBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)Master in Python Language Quickly Using the ChatGPT Open AIBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program MarketingPerformance Marketing for eCommerce BrandsBy – Zafer Mukeri, Founder- Inara MarketersView Program Office ProductivityZero to Hero in Microsoft Excel: Complete Excel guide 2024By – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program FinanceA2Z Of MoneyBy – elearnmarkets, Financial Education by StockEdgeView Program MarketingModern Marketing Masterclass by Seth GodinBy – Seth Godin, Former dot com Business Executive and Best Selling AuthorView Program AstrologyVastu Shastra CourseBy – Sachenkumar Rai, Vastu ShashtriView Program StrategySuccession Planning MasterclassBy – Nigel Penny, Global Strategy Advisor: NSP Strategy Facilitation Ltd.View Program Data ScienceSQL for Data Science along with Data Analytics and Data VisualizationBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)AI and Analytics based Business StrategyBy – Tanusree De, Managing Director- Accenture Technology Lead, Trustworthy AI Center of Excellence: ATCIView Program Web DevelopmentA Comprehensive ASP.NET Core MVC 6 Project Guide for 2024By – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program MarketingDigital Marketing Masterclass by Pam MooreBy – Pam Moore, Digital Transformation and Social Media ExpertView Program Artificial Intelligence(AI)AI-Powered Python Mastery with Tabnine: Boost Your Coding SkillsBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Office ProductivityMastering Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and 365By – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program MarketingDigital marketing – WordPress Website DevelopmentBy – Shraddha Somani, Digital Marketing Trainer, Consultant, Strategiest and Subject Matter expertView Program Office ProductivityMastering Google Sheets: Unleash the Power of Excel and Advance AnalysisBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program Web DevelopmentMastering Full Stack Development: From Frontend to Backend ExcellenceBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program FinanceFinancial Literacy i.e Lets Crack the Billionaire CodeBy – CA Rahul Gupta, CA with 10+ years of experience and Accounting EducatorView Program Data ScienceSQL Server Bootcamp 2024: Transform from Beginner to ProBy – Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and DeveloperView Program ET was the first to report on January 23 that India wants to build its own foundational model.Discover the stories of your interestThe Centre’s move follows the US government restricting export of AI compute infrastructure and limiting use of language models that are currently dominated by American technology firms.
